Inkwell Press 2016

Important Note: Inkwell Press is currently sold out of their LiveWell planners. Because of being a small business and doing print runs they are only in stock a few times a year, however other products like their quarterly planners are available. Also, there is a talk of a imperfect planner sale in January. Make sure to follow Inkwell Press on Instagram and their email list for details.

Though my entire job is online and digital based I have found over the years that I love old fashioned paper planners. They fit better for my brain and my desire to write a few too many lists.

Last year Ashley from makeupTIA shared her Inkwell Press LiveWell planner and it was love at first sight. At the time I was using the Day Designer and while I loved the planner daily pages were too much for me. I only have a few scheduled appointments or meetings a week so half a page for appointments each day was a little much for me.

Thus I was looking for a 2016 planner with monthly and weekly layouts. Inkwell Press has two layouts: flex (horizontal) and classic (vertical). I chose flex because I’m not a fan of long columns but I’ve been beautiful planners with both layouts.

Things I love:

  • Paper quality – everyone mentions this with the Inkwell Press planner but its true. The paper is so thick and beautiful, sharpie pens don’t bleed through and I don’t think pages will fall out due to wear.
  • Beautiful design – peak at the photos below and you will see how lovely the colors are. The color schemes rotate between four designs but the general mission board and gradient stay the same.
  • Fits your style – the Inkwell Press planner can fit so many personalities and styles. Some gals will decorate with stickers and calligraphy while others will just stick with a black pen. Check out #inkwellpress and #inkwellpressplanner on Instagram for hundreds of images of inspiration. My to do list placement came from Tanya and her amazing Instagram posts.

Things I’m not as keen on:

  • Price – the planner is $54 plus shipping and after using it I think its totally worth it. However when you are hesitant to take the leap and not sure its a big price tag. As mentioned earlier I think the quality is worth it and the price is comparable to other planners like Erin Condren and Day Designer. But if you are coming from Target planner prices, then its a jump.

Peppermint Coffee

With the change in weather I have been craving all things peppermint. However with following THM, Starbucks’ peppermint mochas are out of the questions and they have never been friendly to my pocketbook. Thus I have created this delicious peppermint coffee that has been a nearly daily staple. Please note, this is more like a peppermint coffee/latte since it doesn’t have any chocolate but you try adding cocoa powder.

This recipe was adapted from the THM Winter Wonderland sip

Instructions:

I use the single serve cups for my Ninja blender but any blender will do. Be careful with blending hot liquids. I have found it easiest to combine the dry ingredients in a blender and liquids into a mug. Blend and enjoy!

My Capsule Wardrobe

About a month ago I ran across VivannaDoesMakeup’s video about capsule wardrobes. She pulled her inspiration and guidelines from Caroline of UnFancy. I had previously heard of Caroline and read a bit of UnFancy but never acted. Yet when I rediscovered the idea my wardrobe was feeling flat, nothing seemed to fit and I felt like I was spending hours staring at my clothes only to pick the same everyday outfits.

Thus I dived in, dumping my entire wardrobe onto my bed. I pulled out everything that I didn’t love. I defined this a little more with two questions:“Does it immediately make me smile?” Is my gut reaction that I like it, makes my day better and is a fail safe outfit?

  • “Does it immediately make me smile?” Is my gut reaction that I like it? Does it make my day better and is a fail safe outfit?
  • “Does it fit amazingly well?” Not just fit ok but makes me feel amazing because of how it fits. Often the items went hand in hand because I like the items that fit and make me feel confident.

After clearing out, I had three large trash bags headed to the consignment store and I had a shopping list of three items. I expected a larger shopping list, but the only items I looked for were a white cardigan sweater, new black blazer and potentially brown ankle boots.Traditionally once you had a capsule wardrobe you don’t go shopping. I purposefully didn’t follow but also kind of failed. Traditionally once you had a capsule wardrobe you don’t go shopping. I purposefully didn’t follow but also kind of failed. I have been slowly looking for the three aforementioned items because I had a limited budget and wanted to look for sales. However, I also have purchased a new dress. It is a party/formal black dress which will replace a dress in my wardrobe. I will have the same number of items however I did spend money.

Pros:

  • I love all items in my closet
  • Not as much shopping 🙂
  • Less time and work to get ready in the morning

Cons:

  • Not as much shopping 😦
  • Somedays it can feel limited

Overall I have really liked the system. I may not stick to the strict three-month rotation due to when I started and the funny PNW seasons but I like the limited wardrobe of what I really love.

What’s In My Bag?

IMG_1421

I carry a Dagne Dover Mini Tote as my everyday work bag. Don’t let mini in the name fool you, its my largest purse at 13x5x11. Unlike most tote style bags, Dagne Dover specializes in organization and compartments. The Mini Tote has a padded tablet sleeve, slot for my phone and pens, water bottle holder, two smaller open pockets and a larger zippered pocket. All of these space allow me to hold a substantial amount of stuff without losing anything and distributing the weight effectively.

Please note that I only carry this three blocks a day and that’s it. If I plan on carrying my purse for an extended period of time I remove items as to not strain my back or shoulders

I manage to fit….

My Dagne Dover bag is in the coated canvas so withstands the rainy Pacific Northwest weather. My only qualm is the price, it is in the $200+ range and so you have you be sure you really want it and would use such a bag. However I purchased mine off of Poshmark for significantly less and in amazing condition. (Use the code PSUBS for $10 off when you download the app)

Overall I really like the bag and would recommend it.

November Favorites

Rose Salve
Being that it has become winter, my lips have gotten incredibly chapped. Painfully so, this also means that lipstick or color is impossible to wear. Thick nourishing rose salve has been the only lip product to heal my lips. Over the last few weeks, I have been religiously using it and it has made an incredible difference. Seriously, its $6 pick some up on your next Sephora trip.

The Great British Baking Show
Ready. Set. Bake! Wonderful British accents and lovely looking food. The competitors are nice and don’t backstab, it’s a “reality” competition show without the nastiness between people. Please go find it on Netflix, a wonderful way to spend a dark cold evening. However beware snacks are required when watching, you will want to eat all the delicious pies, tarts, cakes and breads.

First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair Instant Oatmeal Mask
My skin has been recently unhappy about the switch to colder weather. Just ten minute with this mask, my dry flakey skin is hydrated and my acne is calmed. This will definitely be a favorite during the cold weather. Thank you to Ashley from That Is All for the original recommendation.
